There are five recognised innovation precincts located throughout Adelaide which combine research with commercial activities. These form the hubs of strategic technology activity fostered in the Government's Constellation SA strategy (a 10 year vision for Science and Technology).
The Thebarton Bioscience Precinct is home to one of the largest clusters of commercial medical bioscience companies in Australia. The Precinct area is 7.0 ha and is situated just 3km from the central business district of Adelaide, and 4km to Adelaide International Airport. It forms part of a 12.0 ha bioscience and advanced technology hub in collaboration with the adjacent University of Adelaide Research Park. Stage 1 of the Precinct, comprising 2.2 hectares was previously developed by the South Australian State Government and currently accommodates Bionomics Ltd, Hospira Adelaide Pty Ltd, Novozymes GroPep Ltd, TGR Biosciences Pty Ltd, Primegro Pty Ltd, Idexx Laboratories Pty Ltd, and Thermo Fisher Scientific Ltd in four purpose built facilities with building space of approximately 11,200 sqm (120,000 sq ft). Stage 2 of the development is managed by Bio Innovation SA and offers land for development by companies in the bioscience industry. The opportunity allows for 25,000 sqm (270,000 sq ft) of new facilities to be established for new bioscience companies. The first building project was commenced in April 2007 and will provide Australia’s first dedicated bioscience business incubator. |
