Bio Innovation SA plays a key role in assisting South Australian researchers and start-up companies to access public and private funding to ensure they can achieve a commercial outcome for their technologies.

Bio Innovation SA Activities

Bio Innovation SA is facilitating the growth of South Australia's bioscience industry by:

  • Providing information, advice and assistance to bioscience start-ups, companies and scientists/researchers seeking access to private sources of funding
  • Offering funding through a number of South Australian Government programs
  • Establishing networks for global linking of research and industry to sources of international public and enterprise funding
  • Linking the South Australian bioscience industry with federal strategies and programs to gain greater leverage from current and proposed funds

 

Bio Innovation SA Conditional Grants

Bio Innovation SA operates a number of key funding initiatives, including:

 
  • Commercial Development Initiative

Bio Innovation SA has established the Commercial Development Initiative (CDI) to assist the commercialisation of South Australian bioscience technologies originating from public sector organisations, including universities, hospitals and research institutes. Applications can be submitted at any time. CDI grants of up to $50,000 can be used for such activities as proof-of-concept research, intellectual property advice and market research. (Employees of the South Australian Department of Health can apply for funding for provisional patent applications through this scheme).

  • Business Development Initiative

Bio Innovation SA has established the Business Development Initiative (BDI) to assist South Australian bioscience companies to develop their business. BDI conditional grants of up to $250,000 can be used for a range of activities.  The BDI is open to start-up and early stage South Australian biotechnology companies. Applications can be submitted year-round and will be reviewed according to Merit Criteria which include the feasibility and commercial viability of the activities and the commercial expertise and skill of the management team.   • Commercial Infrastructure Grant

Funding to a maximum of $250,000 to help South Australian bioscience companies and organisations to buy equipment that has the potential to assist with generating revenues and attracting additional funds. New conditions apply to these grants, please contact our Business Development Team to discuss.
